The one thing you must not do when traveling back in time is contact with your younger self because if you do, you will, I don't know, worlds collide, the timeline crashes, or divide into millions more like the events in MCU. However, this is exactly what happened in The Adam Project and well, no collision or explosion occurred.

Time-traveling fighter pilot Adam Reed who comes from 2050, teams up with his 12-year-old self on a quest to preserve the future after accidentally crash-landing in 2022. That's basically the synopsis. Very succinct and very clear.
The Adam Project is a lot of fun to watch. It's a wonderful blend of sci-fi from the 1980s and 1990s, with hints of Terminator and Back to the Future, as the film openly admits. This approach was also used to great success in the director-actor duo's previous picture, Free Guy. Movie references in The Adam Project, on the other hand, are more constructive to the movie arc and do not distract viewers from the storyline, unlike the excessive and pointless use in Free Guy.
We get to see a lot of cutting-edge future technology and up-close confrontations with 'lightsabers,' drones, and jet fighters, as we do in most Ryan Reynolds films.
I had low expectations for this film because I've been disappointed by all of Reynold's previous films. The Adam Project, on the other hand, isn't it. Well, Reynold's characteristic snarky quips about everyone and everything are still present. The film astonishes me with a powerful family value that had me cry several times. If the filmmakers' goal was to help people appreciate their families more, they succeeded with flying colors. The way they develop their characters, gives them more depth and emotional scars, which explains their actions as a mask for their agony and sorrow. Furthermore, rather than slowing the pace of the picture with a lot of downbeat, those sarcastic jokes play a magnificent part in lowering the tension this time.

Walker Scobell is a fantastic young actor with a promising career ahead of him. When you have to wonder if that's truly Ryan's younger self because the similarity is uncanny, you know they've cast a fantastic actor.
When Ryan's Adam talked to his mother at the pub, it was one of my favorite scenes in the movie. It's a good thing they didn't include some lame joke since it would have been completely improper. The way this scene is inserted to convey to the audience that Adam's parents are only human, flawed, and imperfect, but they always do their best for their child, is amazing.
Now that we've covered the advantages, let's move on to the disadvantages. Maya Sorian, the film's antagonist, is underdeveloped because her primary motivation for killing everyone is to preserve her future. Very persuasive *smiley face, winky face* Rather than recruiting a younger actor to play her younger self, the producers use low-cost CGI that can be detected from a hundred miles away.

Furthermore, because the film emphasizes the importance of family, the antagonists are given insufficient screen time. They first appear attacking Old Adam, then vanish until arc 2, then reappear before being called at the finale. It appears that their sole purpose in the film is to instigate violence when it is required.
In general, I like it. More than I thought.
