After one weekend of binging Netflix's brand new show, Inventing Anna, I have learned 6 cool things, either about myself or the world.
1. If you want something, you have to work for it
That's exactly what a 25-year-old Anna Delvey a.k.a Anna Sorokin did. Even though I wouldn't trust her to feed my imaginary dogs, I admire her fucking guts. She saw something she wanted and went for it. How many of us can say that? I mean, I'm trying to.
Anna Devley didn't appear to be plagued by the severe self-doubt that holds so many people back. Instead, she determined that she deserved everything then she went for it. Gosh, I love that about her and she has just fueled me with more desire and motivation to pursue my dream.
2. Work until your water broke:
My best friend told me that I would be Vivian Kent one day because we see me in the way she worked. People in general and women specifically, who work hard towards their goals and dedicate a tremendous amount of effort to each project, inspire and fuel me with so much force and motivation. I want to live like that. Geez, I sound so much like a workaholic, but I'd like that.
I once promised myself that I would work the way those journalists in Spotlight worked because they inspired me to be a better person, a better screenwriter, or simply, just a better employee. Always find people with great effort incredibly charming.
3. You don't have to be likable:
Anna's incapability of remorse is a sign of psychological issues. What is she, a sociopath, machiavellian, narc? Who knows. Who cares. She’s fascinating and disturbing.
She was unpleasant, entitled, brash, and unlikeable in every sense, but she managed to blend in and attract people with her wits and charisma. That, we have to give it to her. Anna and "Amy" from Gone Girl, another unlikeable female character and one of my favorites, have certain similarities. However, Anna never framed anyone for murder or went to great efforts to get revenge. She's incredibly self-centered and manipulative, but unlike the "Tindler Swindler," she didn't steal from the wealthy and wiggle her way into anyone's heart or bed to achieve what she wanted. She is just that badass.

4. Play the boys game in a male-dominated world:
It's not difficult to empathize with her. She recognized the numerous challenges that (young) women confront when being taken seriously in a male-dominated world, unlike all the other spoiled trophy wives. Anna did not take advantage of her femininity or sex to defraud people. Again, I have so much respect for her for that. She uses her head to think and strategize, then utilizes her charisma and charm to lure people into agreeing with her, working with her, and investing in her without the need to spread her legs. Brilliant. Totally brilliant.
5. Confidence is key:
Self-confidence allows you to experience freedom from self-doubt and negative thoughts about yourself. Moreover, it makes you more willing to take smart risks and more able to move outside of your comfort zone. Did you see Anna flinch when someone confronts her about the money? Yes, she did. But did she break? No, she did not. Why? Because of her self-confidence. Though I do not recommend anyone being blindly confident in themselves like that, it's too desperate. But Anna's confidence in herself, in her own lies that power her with strength that she can do whatever she pleases. Ladies, if anyone with that kind of self-confidence, the world will soon be female-dominated.
6. Fake it 'till you make it:
"Fake it until you make it" - An English proverb that says that by emulating confidence, competence, and an optimistic outlook, a person can achieve those attributes in their real life. Fake a smile. Fake your posture. Pretend you know the answer. Do whatever you feel needed in that situation to get what you desire. I know, so extreme. To improve the consequences of these actions, it is beneficial to practice them. This advice is especially applicable to taking steps to make you a better person when it comes to persistent behavioral change. For instance, the more you act in a pleasant, kind manner, the more natural it gets. Your techniques become more habitual as you indulge yourself with hugs and smiles. (PsychCentral)
Of course, people will always try to defraud others (as the epidemic sadly illustrated), and most of us would draw the line at criminality when it came to keeping up with the Kardashians. But perhaps more than anything, these scammer stories have taught us more about ourselves and the world than we previously knew.
