Goodbye 2020

Jessie Nguyen

Just last March, I felt like we were living in a Hollywood disaster movie. Though my country, Vietnam didn't experience such a terrible time like other countries, it was still a very dark time for mankind. And now, look at it, it's December 31st already, time flies.

2020 to many people, is a disaster year, a terrible time to overcome, a rock bottom, a comet some may say. But to me, this year is far better than 2016, personally. 2020 didn't rip anything off me, 2020 didn't mistreat me. On the contrary, 2020 gave me a great time to focus on myself, to build a better version of me, to find my inner peace during quarantine and I even lost some weight (which I now gain back, how sad), I practiced cooking, learned my French which hasn't come to an end yet, being happy completely on my own. Yes, I can proudly say that in the darkest moment of mankind, I found my light.

Last year, 2019, on this day, I was at school, doing my assignment with my teammates until the security guards told us to go home, to have some fun before closing the school at 9 p.m. Oh, what a memory! This year, how things change! I still have the assignment to do but it's not hasty so I can spend today enjoying the very last moments of 2020 by sleeping in until noon, going out for a cup of coffee to catch up with my friend in the afternoon then grilling some chicken for dinner before opening a bottle of wine to enjoy the movie "New Year Eve" and wait for 2021 to come. I have had a great full day today and also for the whole year.

I don't hate you 2020, I'm actually grateful for you. Thank you for a year of realization, lessons, love, friendship, and appreciation for any normal simple day because now, in this chaotic world, a normal day is precious.

Goodbye 2020, here I come 2021, bring it on, I'm ready!
